This is a tutorial on how to make your own Nightmare Before Christmas gift wrapping paper. It can be used for NBC prop making, or actual gift wrap for a huge NBC fan!
This creepy paper is made famous in the attic scene of the Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland Park in California:
There is an easy part and a hard part to making this.
1 . The easy part is the wrapping papers are all pre-made by a great special effects artist Tim Baker. He has made these digital papers available FREE online here:

SAMPLE PAPER
2 . The Hard Part is you need to print these out yourself. If you want to print out large scale paper, you will need to have access to a large scale printer, such as Fedex/Kinkos, or other copy shops, which can be pricey.
(I happen to know someone that owns a large scale printer, so I lucked out)

These are amazing! Where did you get the skulls from?
ReplyDeleteI made them myself
DeleteDid you make the ribbons yourself as well?
DeleteAlso, if not, can you please tell me where you bought them? Thank you so much!
DeleteAll of the ribbons are also found at the posted wrapping paper link. They are attached to the paper jpeg. After you print the sheet of wrapping paper you can cut the ribbon off and put it on the wrapped present. All are found on the link, except the orange skull ribbon. I made that one myself from a photograph of the ribbon on the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.

Side note: To get more colors of ribbon and paper i saved the original jpeg and then in photoshop i adjusted the colors to make different combos. For example. The link given shows blue swirley wrapping paper. In photoshop i desaturated the jpeg and adjusted contrast to make black and white swirly wrapping paper. Same with turning black and orange ribbon into black and purple ribbon, and so forth.
DeleteYou are amazing, I am not good with photoshop at all and I want to put these together as an amazing gift. Would you by chance still have the files for the colors you modified? They simply look too amazing to ignore. Also, were these printed on gloss paper or flat?
DeleteThat are printed on flat non gloss paper. I dont think i have the files anymore. I could make them again. But the problem is they will be huge files. Too big to email. If i resize the file smaller to email it to you, when you print it out it will be all pixelated and low quality. I will look into it ans see what i can do. If you do have access to photoshop. Its super easy. I can just tell you what to click.
DeleteThank you so much!! I personally do not have access, but I do know someone that does. They may be able to do it for me if I ask them. I know my brother (who works in film) needs to transfer large files all the time. I can ask him how he transfers them if you would like. I would really appreciate it :). These are going to make amazing gifts. Which do you think is easier? Giving me instructions or providing a way to transfer the file?
DeleteI will type some instructions. If all else fails. Let me know where to send the files.

These are so awesome!!! Found you from Pinterest - WDW pinned this onto their "Disney Holidays" board. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! And wow. Im thrilled to be featured on the official Disney World Pinterest boards!!!! Thank you so much for letting me know <3
DeleteHow do you get these to print out large format? I brought the files to Staples to print out - and they said they were small and only fit on 8.5X11.
ReplyDeleteYou need to click on the Tim Baker Deviant art link and download the high quality images from him. The samples I posted arelow quality that will pixelate if ypu try to enlarge and print. They need to have a large scale poster printer to do it. I know it works because I have the enlarged printed wrapping paper. Hope that helps
DeleteCan you show how the skull was made, i know u said cardboard but how u form it. It looks awesome. Thank
ReplyDeleteThe large skull is flat and cut out of insulation foam sanded and painted. There is a template for this on my NBC wreath post I believe. The smaller skulls were hand carved out of plaster and molded.
